Choosing Fabric for Upholstery

Upholstery fabric should be selected for the furniture, level of use, cleaning needs and the people or animals using it. Appearance matters, but durability, handling and maintenance are equally important.

Questions to ask

  • Is the item decorative, residential or high-use commercial furniture?
  • What abrasion and cleaning demands will the fabric face?
  • Does the pattern direction affect the required quantity?
  • Are composition, flame-performance or other certified specifications required?
